After Spray Lawn Care
Hydro Spray Grass has taken care to use the best seeds and mulch and then the right amount of high quality fertiliser to give your new lawn the best conditions for a healthy and quick start to life. Your Hydromulch lawn is a precise balance of all the ingredients needed and now its up to you to in the all-so-important, initial weeks to show a little tender loving care. That’s all it takes and then you will have a lawn to be proud of.
Summer Spraying Care (October to April)
Step 1: The grass seeds are wrapped up in a cosy mulch blanket. The water all around them wakes them up and they germinate. At this stage the seeds are very, very, fragile. THEY MUST BE KEPT MOIST ! Gently water every day. Remember:- Not Soggy, just moist and never dry.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Do not water at night. There is no need to do this as it will not assist the seed to germinate. It may even harm the new baby plants as with the heat and humidity of summer and too much water, a fungus could grow and ruin all the good work you have done. Thus you can stop watering at about 4:30 in the afternoon.
Step 2: Ensure that on hot days the Hydromulch is gently watered as many times as necessary – don’t let it dry out. If the seeds that have begun the process of germination dry out, they die. The Hydromulch is sprayed with a green dye. A good indication that the seeds need water is if the green colour changes to white.
Step 3: Do not let animals or people walk on the newly sprayed area for at least 3 weeks, or the germinating grass seeds will die. Make sure that the area is roped off and animals kept away.
Step 4: After about 2 weeks you can start to cut down on the frequent light sprinklings and just give your new lawn a good soak (until run off is just detected) in the morning and evening.
Step 5: At about 4 –5 weeks you will want to give the new lawn a mow. Don’t cut lower than 30mm above the ground. This is the best height for Couch and will assist in keeping weeds out of your new lawn. WATER? - you only need give it a good soaking once a week to encourage the roots to go deep.
Step 6: Fertilize the new lawn at about 6 weeks after hydro spraying.
From here on: A healthy lawn is the best defence against weeds, just remember to: Feed your lawn every couple of months in the Summer time only. Give it a good soak once a week after sundown. Keep it cut at around 30 - 50mm. Do this and you will only have to pull out the odd weed by hand occasionally while you take pride in a beautiful, healthy lawn that you grew right where you wanted it.
WINTER SPRAYING CARE (May to September)
In Winter we include a Cover Crop of Rye Grass that will grow quickly and form a lawn even if it is cold and shady. This will die when the warm weather comes. The real grass needs warm weather to germinate and grow.
So all you have to do is when warmer weather comes, around September, is to repeat the instructions that you first used to start your lawn.
The guide is when the Rye Grass starts to go brown on the tips. Make sure that you mow it and then start watering the lawn area and keep it damp for the next couple of weeks to germinate the main grass that has been dormant during the winter.
